History

The Motor Mills Building is a very historical place for the residents of Kingsport.  Home to the first car specialist in Downtown Kingsport, this structure still communicates the story of how the space performed many years ago.  Built in 1933, the left side of the building was used for developing, warehousing, and publicly showcasing various models of Chrysler Plymouth. With unexpected growth in the first two years, the company expanded the right side of the structure in 1936, now known as 215 Commerce Street. This 1930’s-style storefront has large revamped windows that can be seen throughout many older photographs.  The Motor Mills Building provides character to the town of Kingsport and presents an impression of what the town grew upon throughout the first 100 years of commerce.
